Exhibition on Genetically Modified Crops (Saturday, 17th January, 2026)
· Department of Botany along with students from B. Sc. Part III organized an educational exhibition to create awareness about genetically modified (GM) crops, focusing on their advantages and disadvantages. Special emphasis was given to discussing both positive and negative aspects. The exhibition highlighted benefits such as reduced pesticide use, improved crop productivity, and enhanced nutritional quality. At the same time, it also addressed concerns like environmental risks, gene flow, resistance development in pests, ethical issues, and possible long-term health effects. The programme was interactive in nature. Visitors, including students from other departments and local farmers, asked questions and engaged in discussions. This helped in clearing misconceptions and promoting scientific awareness about biotechnology in agriculture.
· Outcome: Community Awareness as Students, farmers, and visitors gained a clear understanding of genetically modified (GM) crops; The exhibition encouraged students to think critically about both the positive and negative aspects of GM technology instead of having a one-sided view.
